Vol. 382 No. 10

Written Answers. - Ban on South African Produce.

30.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give a report on the operation of the Irish ban on the importation of fruit and vegetable products and produce from South Africa; if any goods have been seized or located as being illegally within the boundaries of the State; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners have informed me that since the ban came into force, one small consignment of tinned fruit of South African origin has been seized. In addition importations of fruit declared to be from countries adjoining South Africa are currently under investigation by the Customs and Excise Investigation Branch.
