It is tentatively estimated that the cost of granting pensions to widowers on the same basis as they are currently made available to widows would be of the order of £30 million per annum. The provision of pensions for widowers under the social welfare code is being examined by the National Pensions Board as part of their review of pensions provision generally. The matter will be considered in the light of the board's report.
