asked the Minister for Communications the regulations which apply to low power sound broadcasting services and internal television services in hospitals and educational institutions; if such broadcasts are currently in breach of the Sound Broadcasting and Wireless Telegraphy Acts; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Broadcasting Regulations.
180.
Section 8 (2) of the Radio and Television Act, 1988, empowers the Independent Radio and Television Commission to consider applications for the provision of low power sound broadcasting services in such institutions.
I am aware that services such as "Hospital Radio" currently exist. Any such services that are distributed on a closed circuit basis by wire do not require to be licensed.
