Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - Storm Damage Compensation.

188.

asked the Minister for the Marine the reason for the delay in having compensation paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for damages caused to his fish farm during "Hurricane Charlie" and which damages were to be settled out of EC funds.

The Deputy will recall that in my reply to his question of 29 June 1988 I stated that an aid package was approved by the Government to give financial assistance to a small number of fish farmers who suffered losses in the storm and that the scheme is limited in its application to those fish farms on whose behalf assistance was originally sought.

The claim in question was not received in time to be included in the original scheme but I agreed to make a special effort on behalf of the fish farmer to see if assistance can be provided under the circumstances. I expect to finalise this matter within a few weeks and am very hopeful that it will be possible to bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.

This aid package is being funded solely from my Department's Vote and there is no contribution from the EC.
