Statistics of prosecutions and convictions for drunken driving and related offences are included in the Garda Commissioner's annual report on crime. Copies of the report for the years 1986 and 1987 are available in the Oireachtas library.
Statistics relating to the number of fines imposed or the number of persons sentenced to terms of imprisonment in drunken driving cases are not readily available and could not be compiled without the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time. The numbers of persons in respect of whom community service orders were made in such cases in 1986 and 1987 are given in my written reply on this date to another Question by the Deputy (No. 61).
