Vol. 383 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

96.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in payment of a grant for work carried out in 1986 to a school (details supplied) in County Meath; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy is understood to be referring to a grant applied for by the school referred to in respect of sink units installed in 1985 about which my Department's professional advisers had expressed reservations in their reports, the units in question not being of the usual type which they recommend for national schools. The matter is under review and I understand that my Department will be in a position in the near future to make a grant offer to the school. In view of his interest, I am arranging for the Deputy to be informed of the outcome as soon as a decision is arrived at.

asked the Minister for Education the reason a grant has not been allocated to a school (details supplied) in County Meath for the conversion of dormitories to urgently needed classrooms; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

An application for a retrospective grant was submitted by the school management. This application is currently being examined in my Department in respect of conversion work carried out at the school in the absence of any agreement with the Department with regard to planning, design or financing of the project.
