The amount of excise duty on foreign travel collected in 1987 was £7.0 million. The amount collected in 1988, up to the end of September, was £5.5 million (provisional). These receipts represent 1.4 million and 1.1 million persons, respectively, in relation to whom duty was paid in the periods in question.
It is not possible to estimate the amount collected in respect of those who travelled on holidays only.
