The Central Statistics Office is the official scource of figures relating to industrial disputes. However, the figures published by that office do not differentiate between official and unofficial disputes. Estimated figures prepared by my Department indicate that a total of 22 unofficial strikes took place during 1987. This was the lowest number of unofficial strikes recorded in a single year since the Department began compiling figures in 1976.
