Vol. 383 No. 7

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Statistics.

37.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of non-commissioned officers, privates and officers who have left the Army from January 1987 to the end of September 1987 compared to the same period this year.

Limerick West): From 1 January to 30 September 1987 — 38 Officers, 219 NCOs and 425 Privates left the Army.

The figures for the corresponding period this year are: 43 Officers, 216 NCOs and 475 Privates.

38.

asked the Minister for Defence the amount surrendered at year end 1987 from his sub-heads for (a) pay and (b) allowances of the permanent Defence Force; and the amounts he expects to surrender in 1988.

Limerick West): Expenditure in 1987 on (a) the pay and (b) the allowances of the Permanent Defence Force was £5,195,283 less than the provision for pay and £820,728 less than the provision for allowances.

The figures for expenditure in 1988 will not be available until the end of the year. However, the indications at present are that the variation in 1988 between expenditure under these headings and provision will be less than the corresponding figure for 1987.

39.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of Army personnel who are in receipt of a family income supplement; and the reason for this situation.

Limerick West): Twenty-seven non-commissioned officers and privates satisfy the relevant conditions to qualify for benefit.
