Vol. 383 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tourism Budget.

117.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the percentage of the budget for tourism which was allocated to County Kerry in 1988.

Allocations for tourism in the Tourism and Transport Vote are for the most part expended under the aegis of Bord Fáilte, and SFADCo in the case of the mid-west region, but not on a strict county by county basis. However, County Kerry, being a prime tourist area, is one of the main beneficiaries of overseas advertising and promotional expenditure from the Exchequer's annual grant-in-aid to Bord Fáilte. In addition, the board provide a yearly grant, from this grant-in-aid, to the Cork-Kerry Regional Tourism Organisation towards promotion and development activities in the two counties. In 1988, this will amount of £232,000.

The board will also provide this year a total of £108,484 in direct financial assistance for individual capital projects and marketing initiatives relating specifically to County Kerry.
