Vol. 383 No. 8

Written Answers. - Anti-flu Vaccine.

216.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make immediate arrangements for an adequate supply of anti-flu vaccine to be made available to all general practitioners in order that it may be administered to all high-risk categories, in view of the fact that it is important that people at high risk from flu and its complications should be protected this year as the hospital service is unable to cater for such patients, when they become seriously ill from flu complications.

Each year, the Department of Health informs health boards by circular letter, based on information received from the World Health Organisation, of the various strains of influenza virus vaccines required for the coming year, to enable the boards to order the appropriate vaccines in good time.

It is a matter for each health board to ensure that it has adequate supplies of these vaccines available in its area.
