Vol. 383 No. 8

Written Answers. - Rathcoffey (County Kildare) School.

252.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposal to extend facilities at Rathcoffey national school, County Kildare; if she envisages this proposal to be progressed in the current year or in 1989; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The original brief for the proposed extension of Rathcoffey national school, County Kildare, envisaged the conversion of the existing classrooms into a general purposes area and the provision of four new classrooms. Because of the pressure on the capital funds available to my Department for the national schools building programme, the scheme in that form could not be funded. I have asked my Department to re-examine the scheme in terms of grant-aiding the provision of necessary teaching accommodation in the form of a number of basic classroom units to be provided in a first instalment of building. When this approach has been assessed in architectural terms and costed, my Department will communicate further with the school authorities.
