Vol. 384 No. 2

Written Answers. - Extradition Cases.

29.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of extradition cases pending which are subject to the operation of the Extradition (Amendment) Act, 1987; and the number and type of proceedings which have been taken under this Act since its enactment.

Warrants have been endorsed for execution in five cases to which the provisions of the Extradition (Amendment) Act 1987 apply. In two of these cases proceedings were brought in the District Court. Such proceedings are brought under the Extradition Act 1965, not the Extradition (Amendment) Act 1987. Orders for the return of the person sought were made in one case but refused in the other. The latter case is presently the subject of an appeal by way of case stated to the High Court.
