Vol. 384 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

62.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Dublin has been waiting for several weeks for a tax rebate of £390 due to him in respect of his employment during the summer months; that the issue of his cheque is held up due to a strike in the office of the Revenue Commissioners computer section; the steps which are being taken to bring this dispute to a conclusion; and when this person will receive the money due to him.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the industrial dispute mentioned by the Deputy has now been resolved and that the repayment due will be made as soon as possible.

63.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the Revenue Commissioners will refund tax due to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry in one lump sum rather than by monthly instalments.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the taxpayer ceased employment on 16 September 1988 and submitted a tax repayment claim to the Inspector of Taxes on 25 October 1988. The claim was dealt with and a cheque in respect of an interim refund was issued to him on 5 November 1988.

On 1 November 1988 the inspector wrote to the taxpayer enclosing a return of income for 1988-89 for completion. The form has not been returned to date. On receipt of the return form, duly completed, the balance of tax overdeducted will be refunded in full as the taxpayer has indicated that he does not intend resuming employment before 5 April 1989.

64.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in issuing a tax rebate to a person (details supplied) in County Louth.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer's liability for the year 1987-88 has now been reviewed and a cheque for the repayment due for that year should reach him shortly.
