asked the Minister for Energy the cost of the upkeep of the Whiddy Oil terminal, County Cork, in each of the years since it came into public ownership; and the amount which has been invested in it in each of those years.

The INPC assumed ownership of the Whiddy Island teminal on 16 June 1986. The remit of the corporation is to maintain the facility in such a condition to allow it to play a viable role as a reactivated terminal in the future. No. capital expenditure has arisen to date.

The maintenance cost has been as follows: 1986, £250,000; 1987, £432,000; 1988 (Estimated), £475,000.
