Vol. 386 No. 9

Written Answers. - Rape Crisis Centre.

18.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the £20,000 awarded to the Rape Crisis Centre before Christmas 1988 from the national lottery has not yet been received by them; and no funding will be available to the centre until the Eastern Health Board presents its report; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As stated in my reply to a question by Deputy Spring on 6 December last, the further £20,000 to the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre was conditional upon their coming to agreement with the health board on the co-ordination of their services with the statutory services. I also arranged for the health board to advise the centre about the organisation of its financial affairs. The centre is aware of certain information required by the health board to enable it to complete its examination of the situation and I would expect that this would be furnished by the centre as a matter of urgency.

A decision on the restructuring of the centre towards which the Government provided £100,000 in the budget awaits the outcome of the examination referred to.
