asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the names of the four board members representing the Irish Government on An Bord Scoláireachtaí Cómalairte; the educational qualifications and standards required for a person to obtain a scholarship under An Bord Scoláireachtaí Cómalairte to the United States; the number of Irish students who have obtained scholarships under this scheme, between Ireland and the United States for each of the years commencing in 1980 to date; the number of American students who obtained scholarships from the United States to Ireland; and if there are any plans or proposals to extend this scheme so that more students can partake in this scholarship exchange.

The four board members representing the Irish Government on An Bord Scolaireachtaí Comalairte are: Professor J. J. Lee (Chairman); Dr. C. Ó hEocha; Mrs. S. Nagle; Dr. W. Watts. The awards are for post-graduate study/research and candidates should have a university degree or appropriate professional qualification.

The number of awards for each year commencing 1980 are as follows:

Additional funding provided by the United States in the past four years has enabled the board to increase the level of awards offered. It is envisaged that awards will be maintained at their present level for the foreseeable future.
