In so far as my Department is concerned the position is as follows. There are eight petrol driven vehicles in the Prison Service fleet. Two of these cannot be converted to take unleaded petrol. Of the remaining six vehicles two can be converted to unleaded petrol and four need no such adaptation. The estimated number of miles travelled per annum of the six vehicles concerned is 303,500. A decision to use unleaded petrol was taken in March 1989 and is being implemented at present.

The Chief Justice is provided with a car which is capable of running on unleaded petrol. The approximate number of miles travelled per annum is 10,000. No decision has been taken to use unleaded petrol but the matter is under consideration.
