The Government is keenly aware of the role that energy plays in our economy and society. It remains the policy of this Government that energy be obtained at the minimum cost consistent with security of supply considerations.
A clear statement of energy policy was set out in the recently published National Development Plan 1989-1993. The importance of the further development of indigenous fuels was a key feature of the energy element of the plan.
