The available information derives from the sample country of residence survey which is carried out by the Central Statistics Office at air and sea ports.
On the basis of this survey it is estimated that 373,000 visits to Ireland were made by residents of the USA in 1988.
Due to the small numbers involved it is not possible to produce estimates from the sample survey of the number of visits made by residents of the USSR.
