Vol. 389 No. 4

Written Answers. - Southern Health Board Capital Funds.

158.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received an application for capital funds for 1989 from the Southern Health Board; and if he will make a statement on the order of priority of such funds.

An application for capital funds in respect of 1989 was received in my Department from the Southern Health Board. It is a matter for the health board in the first instance to determine the priority given to individual projects and items.

A detailed list of priority equipment needs was submitted to my Department by the board for capital funding in 1989. In view of the constraints on the public capital programme, it has not been possible to fund all these requirements. However, funds are being made available towards the cost of a linear accelerator, the equipping of the ophthalmic unit and the purchase of items of equipment for the neurosurgical department at the regional hospital.

It has not been possible to consider any other requests for capital funds.

159.
