Vol. 389 No. 4

Written Answers. - Supply of Bread to Military Installations.

169.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of tenders received and from whom in respect of the supply of bread to the Curragh Camp and other military installations in County Kildare; whether the lowest, second lowest or third lowest tender has been successful; whether it is unusual for tenders other than the lowest tender to be accepted; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick West): A contract was placed in November 1988 for the supply of bread to military posts in County Kildare including the Curragh Training Camp for the period from 1 December 1988 to 30 November 1989, on the basis of competitive tendering. In accordance with Government contracts procedures the lowest suitable tender was accepted in respect of each military post. It is not the practice to disclose details of individual tenders received.

My Department was informed on 24 April, 1989 that the firm which had been awarded the contract had ceased trading and tenders have now been re-invited for the supply of bread to the posts in question for the period ending 30 November, 1989.
