Vol. 389 No. 5

Written Answers. - Telecom Éireann-An Post Dividends.

20.

asked the Minister for Communications whether the Exchequer should withdraw dividends from Telecom Éireann or An Post in advance of Irish charges for the services attaining parity with European levels.

The question of payment of dividends to the Exchequer by Telecom Éireann will not arise until the company's accumulated losses have been eliminated. The question will then fall to be considered in the light of the company's level of indebtedness, the need for them to provide for capital investment and the requirement to bring about reductions in charges. An Post have already eliminated their accumulated losses but have not as yet paid any dividends. It has been decided not to seek payment of dividends by An Post in 1989.
