Mr. Shatter

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of money allocated by way of road grants to each local authority in the State in each of the years from 1980 to 1989; the amount allocated to each such local authority by way of discretionary grants for county roads; in respect of each of the aforesaid years, the amount of monies allocated which were derived from the EC Regional Fund.

Total road grant payments to each local authority in each of the years 1980 to 1989 are set out in table 1.

In this period, the only discretionary grants allocated to local authorities specifically for county roads were grants for county road strengthening (from 1986 to 1988) and grants for works on county roads under the EC Western Package (from 1981 to 1989). Details of these grants, which are included in the amounts shown in table 1, are set out in tables 2 and 3. The tables are being circulated in the Official Report.

EC Regional Funds grants are a matter for the Minister for Finance.
