Vol. 389 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Building Agency Estates.

156.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that houses built by the National Building Agency at Glasgow Park, Limerick, have proved very defective with leaking roofs necessitating expensive maintenance; and if he will make arrangements to have remedial works carried out as was done in respect of other National Building Agency estates where there was inferior design and workmanship.

157.

(Limerick East) asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the serious structural inadequacies of houses in Glasgow Park, Limerick, built by the National Building Agency; if he proposes to approve grants for the redesign of this type of house; and if any relevant proposal has been submitted to him by Limerick Corporation.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 156 and 157 together.

My understanding is that these houses are in private ownership and responsibility for their upkeep, therefore, rests on the individual owners. No proposals have been received from the local authority in relation to this estate. As the house improvement scheme was terminated in March 1987, such grants are not now available, except where a valid application is with the Department.
