The estimated apportionment of amounts expended on the care of the mentally handicapped on a health board basis and based on the geographic origin of clients is as follows:

The above data includes homes for the mentally handicapped which are on a direct budget with the Department of Health together with services provided by health board and local voluntary agencies which are funded directly by the health boards.
In addition to the foregoing, services are provided within health board psychiatric hospitals for persons with a mental handicap. It should also be noted that a number of persons with a mental handicap qualify individually for payment of the disabled persons maintenance allowance.
