asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total amount of moneys awarded by his Department to various clubs and organisations throughout the country from the proceeds of the national lottery in 1989 to date; if this represents an allocation of all the funds available from the proceeds of the national lottery in the current year; if he intends to make further allocations available to voluntary bodies between now and 31 December 1989; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In 1989 the Government allocated £750,000 from national lottery funds for the scheme of grants to voluntary bodies in the social services area. These funds have been allocated to 100 organisations throughout the country. In six cases payment of the grant has not yet been made pending compliance with certain formalities.
In addition an allocation of £50,000 was made available from national lottery funds for a special pilot scheme of assistance to voluntary organisations providing opportunities for unemployed people to become involved in their activities.
Grants amounting to £46,437 have to date been approved under this heading for 43 voluntary organisations involved in community and social services activities. The remaining funds will be allocated as soon as possible.
