Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Land Registry.

198.

asked the Minister for Justice the steps he proposes to take to alleviate the hardship experienced by applicants for registration in the Chancery Street office of the Land Registry, Dublin 7, in light of the unacceptable level of delays therein.

202.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the severe shortage of staff in the Land Registry offices; to the fact that sub-division proceedings take up to two years and a very substantial back-log has built up; and the proposals he has to rectify the situation.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 198 and 202 together. I am aware that there are staff shortages in the Land Registry and unacceptable delays in dealing with applications. I am at present reviewing the operations of the registry with a view to improving the service to the public. I hope to be in a position shortly to put proposals to the Government in the matter.
