Vol. 392 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Kildare Schools.

92.

asked the Minister for Education the proposed schedule for extension of facilities at St. Wolston's Holy Faith secondary school, Celbridge, County Kildare; if she will allow the project to proceed in the context of the 1990 Estimates; if her attention has been drawn to a planning condition imposing a financial levy on the project under the Planning Acts; if, in view of the fact that the school cannot raise the funds, she will increase her Department's allocation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My recent decision to advance this project to Stage 4 (Working Drawings) of my Department's design team procedures has been conveyed to the school authorities. It is my intention to proceed with the architectural planning of the extension according as resources permit.

I am not in a position at present to indicate when construction work will commence, as the funding of this and other post-primary capital projects is dependent on the availability of future capital resources and on my Department's other commitments and priorities.

In regard to the question of a financial levy in respect of the planning application, exemptions from such fees are allowed in respect of certain planning applications. It is considered that the manager should have the matter clarified with the local authority.

asked the Minister for Education her proposals for the extension of facilities at Caragh national school, County Kildare; the full extent of facilities/extensions required; when the proposals will be sanctioned; if provision for same will be made in the context of the 1990 Estimates; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I have agreed to the provision of an extension containing four permanent classrooms at Caragh National School, County Kildare. One of the existing classrooms will be converted for use as a medical inspection/remedial room and a staff room.

The preparation of tender documents for the project is in hands and these will be completed at the earliest possible date. The question of approving the invitation of tenders will then arise and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities in this regard.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the provision of an extension to Rathcoffey national school, County Kildare; the full extent of the proposed extension of facilities at this school; when she will be in a position to sanction the work; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The question of the provision of a permanent extension to Rathcoffey National School, County Kildare is being considered in the context of a necessary review of enrolment projections. A decision will be made at the earliest possible date and then conveyed to the school authorities. Details as to the size of the extension are not yet available.

I am not in a position at this stage to say when building works will commence.
