asked the Minister for Education when Youth Encounter projects were initiated in Dublin and Cork; the present status of these projects; and the work done under them.
Written Answers. - Youth Encounter Projects.
128.
The Cork and Dublin youth encounter projects, were established as pilot schemes in 1978. The operation of these schemes was reviewed in 1986 and they were continued on an amended basis for a further period. Each project is recognised as a special national school and is operated by a board of management. The primary function of the projects is to cater for children who have been alienated from the conventional school system, and who otherwise would require residential placement.
