Vol. 392 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Liability.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give an up-to-date assessment in respect of liability for income tax and capital gains tax, in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the tax-payer's liability to income tax for years to 1987-88 amounts to £6,556.30 excluding interest charges. This liability is based on rental income figures agreed with the taxpayer. The taxpayer may be entitled to mortgage interest relief in respect of the years to 1987-88 but the inspector cannot allow such relief as she has not submitted certificates of interest paid in support of her claim.

A further £562.45 is due in respect of 1988-89 in accordance with a return of income submitted by the taxpayer. A notice of preliminary tax for £600 has been issued for the current year, 1989-90. The taxpayer should submit a return of income, so that her true liability for the current year can be determined.

The taxpayer has also agreed a figure of £2,284.50 with the inspector in respect of capital gains tax.
