An application for a work permit was received in March, 1989 from the prospective employer of the person to whom the question relates. I understand that immigration regulations have not been complied with by the person in question. In the circumstances, it is not possible to consider the application.
As the Deputy is aware, my policy in regard to the granting or refusal of a work permit is based on the need to ensure that, as far as possible, employment opportunities arising here are reserved for Irish or European Community nationals.
In addition, any person in respect of whom a work permit application is made, must, if already living here, have complied with all immigration requirements.
