Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Entry to University.

276.

asked the Minister for Education if it is her intention to debar students from combining the leaving certificate results of more than two years for the purpose of entry to university, having regard to the fact that this would have a profoundly adverse affect on those who wish to avail of second chance education to obtain university degrees; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The question of placing limitations on the number of years from which the results of leaving certificate examination may be combined for the purpose of entry to university is a matter for the individual universities who retain the right to prescribe regulations for admission to these institutions.

A number of working parties are at present considering the co-ordination of entry requirements for third-level institutions and the question of using leaving certificate results of more than one year is among those arising for consideration.
