Vol. 393 No. 2

Written Answers. - Infertility Support Group.

59.

asked the Minister for Health the action he has taken in relation to his meeting with the Infertility Support Group of 10 November 1988; if he has any proposals in relation to suitable avenues for funding for this organisation which is in danger of collapse without assistance.

Following my meeting with the Infertility Support Group in November 1988 all health boards and specific voluntary hospitals were contacted and requested to furnish details of the infertility services provided in their area. The replies received confirm the issues raised by the group and highlight the case for agreeing on a standard protocol for the investigation and treatment of infertility. My Department have written to the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists requesting them to devise such a protocol and I am now awaiting their reply.

The Infertility Support Group have applied for lottery funding and their application will be considered in the context of the arrangements being made for the dispersal of the lottery funds available for health services for the remainder of this year. The health promotion unit have also been in contact with the group and have invited them to submit an application in relation to promotional projects.
