Vol. 393 No. 3

Written Answers. - Distance Learning Programmes.

133.

asked the Minister for Education if she has any proposals for distance learning programmes to enable adult students to obtain university degrees in centres other than the university centre and to facilitate students who are at present excluded from university education through socio-economic or geographic factors.

The National Distance Education Council which was set up in 1985 is at present engaged in developing a national distance education programme. It is providing a degree course and a range of continuing education courses. The council has plans to provide further courses including courses in co-operation with other distance teaching institutions.

The council provides courses on a countrywide basis and students to most of their course work in there own homes and at a time suitable to them.
