Vol. 393 No. 4

Written Answers. - Leixlip (County Kildare) INTEL Project.

100.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement on the INTEL operation scheduled for Leixlip, County Kildare; whether this plant will store arsine gas which is highly poisonous and inflammable and is stored by manufacturers of computer chips; if so, the safety standards which will be in place; the inspection procedures which will be put in place by his Department; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that should there be a leakage of this gas, there could be serious health risks to the inhabitants in the vicinity; and the disaster plan which will be in place should this event occur.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that the proposed INTEL operation at Leixlip, County Kildare, will not involve the use of arsine gas, nor is this gas used in any INTEL wafer fabrication plant anywhere in the world. The INTEL project is proceeding on schedule and recruitment is already under way.
