Vol. 393 No. 4

Written Answers. - Castlebridge (Wexford) Garda Presence.

120.

asked the Minister for Justice the proposals he has to ensure an ongoing Garda presence in the village of Castlebridge, County Wexford, in view of the spate of recent crimes committed there, the lack of any current Garda availability on a 24-hour basis and the rapidly increasing population in the area; and if he will redeploy members of the Garda force to provide adequate cover there.

The policing arrangements for individual areas are a matter for the Garda authorities. They inform me that, in addition to the service provided by the Garda assigned to the local substation, the Castlebridge area receives regular attention from both uniformed and plainclothes patrols which are operated on a 24-hour basis from the parent station at Wexford. The Garda authorities are satisfied that these arrangements, which are in line with the policing arrangements generally for rural areas, make the best use of Garda resources and provide an adequate service.
