On its establishment, the inter-departmental committee on third level education was given the task of setting out principles and recommendations which would guide future policy in relation to third level education. As part of its remit, the committee is addressing the question of the future participation rates in higher education.
I would not wish at this stage to preempt the committee's recommendations in this matter though preliminary indications are of substantially increased demand for places.
