Vol. 393 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cork Sewerage Facilities.

154.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement in relation to the disposal of raw sewage from Cork City into the River Lee; and the plans he has to build a treatment plant to deal with this problem.

Primary responsibility for the provision, operation and maintenance of public sewerage facilities rests with the local authority concerned, in this case Cork Corporation. While there are no proposals before my Department, I understand that the corporation are reviewing the Cork main drainage scheme, with particular regard to the disposal of effluent. Any proposals which may emerge from the review, including proposals concerning effluent treatment, will be carefully considered in my Department.
