asked the Minister for Health if he has any proposals to provide funding for the adult dental scheme; if an investigation into the incidence of oral cancer will be considered; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Adult Dental Scheme.
I accept that the development of services for eligible adults is necessary if a comprehensive dental service is to be provided for the population. I have already indicated that such a development will be my priority in 1990.
The National Survey of Adult Dental Health which is being carried out at present in Cork Dental School and Hospital with support from my Department through the Health Research Board are looking at the incidence of soft tissue lesions including pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions in the adult population. The preliminary results of the survey are expected in 1990. In addition, a small committee is examining the possibility of using European Community research funds to carry out futher studies on oral cancers.
