Vol. 393 No. 8

Written Answers. - Psychological Assessment of Children.

173.

asked the Minister for Education the reason the school psychologist has not called to Ballymakenny National School, Ballymakenny Road, Drogheda, County Louth; and when he/she will call.

Responsibility for making arrangements for the psychological assessments of children referred from national schools in the area in question is a matter for the North Eastern Health Board. The Board does not operate a general assessment service for primary school children. I understand, however, that my Department's Inspector of Guidance Service and Psychologist for post-primary schools in the area has on occasions supplemented, on a totally informal basis, the assessment provision of the health board and has called to the school in question three times in the last month or so.
