I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that they propose to introduce in the near future one semi-rigid inflatable vessel in order to carry out a pilot study with a view to assessing its effectiveness as an aid in combating drug smuggling and other similar activities. The matter will be reviewed in the light of the outcome of the pilot study and a decision will be made as to the use of such craft as an ongoing feature of customs control.
