I support the Commission's guidelines on a Community policy on tourism. The guidelines highlight a number of areas which the Commission consider important for the harmonious development of tourism throughout the Community. These relate to freedom of movement and protection of tourists; working conditions for those engaged in the trade; the importance of transport to tourism; regional development and tourism and safeguarding the European heritage and tourism.
Details of the guidelines were published in the Official Journal of the European Communities on 30 April 1984 (ref. C 115 Volume 27).
