asked the Minister for the Marine the progress, if any, which has been made in regard to the proposed take-over of Howth harbour, County Dublin; if it is intended to establish a harbour authority for Howth; if the Howth Fishermen's Association will be included in any such authority; if the old Howth yacht clubhouse will be reserved for use by such an authority when established; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have recently signed an order declaring Howth harbour a fishery harbour centre under the Fishery Harbour Centres Act, 1968. The order will come into effect from 1 January 1990. I have no plans to establish a harbour authority for Howth harbour.
Proposals for the use of the old Howth yacht club, including the provision of facilities for fishermen, are under consideration in my Department.
