asked the Minister for Finance the amount of aid made available to each county health district from the cross-Border non-quota section of the European Regional Development Fund.
Written Answers. - Special Border Areas Programme Funding.
It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the ERDF Special Border Areas Programme 1986-1990. This programme covers counties Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth and provides ERDF aid of £24.754 million for energy and tourism measures.
The energy measures aided under the programme are work in County Louth on the provision of the natural gas pipeline from Dublin to Dundalk. The ERDF aid allocated to this project was £11.684 million. A further amount of £5 million ERDF aid was reserved under the programme for a possible westward extension of the gas pipeline.
On the tourism side, the measures aided under the programme are tourism promotion, the provision of tourist amenities and infrastructure and access roads. Lists of the projects approved for implementation under the programme was given in the reply to Question No. 46 on the Order Paper for 8 November 1989.
ERDF aid of £0.550 million was allocated in the programme for promotional measures. Many of these embrace more than one county and consequently it is not possible to provide a breakdown of the aid by county. Aid of £0.025 million was allocated for the provision of informational plaques, and it is not possible to provide a breakdown of this amount by county either. The following shows the amount of aid allocated to each county in respect of tourist amenities and infrastructure and access roads.
