Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

168.

asked the Minister for the Environment, having regard to the capital allocation of £45 million of nonvoted moneys for the construction of local authority housing to be financed from the proceeds of the sales from local authority houses, in respect of each local authority, the amount of money which is anticipated will be received from such sales in 1990; if they will be authorised to borrow in advance of receipt of such sales the necessary capital sums to finance the construction of new local authority housing; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Details of the amounts likely to be available in 1990 from the proceeds of sales of local authority houses have been sought from each housing authority. The question of borrowing by local authorities to finance their housing construction programme does not arise.

169.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the amount of finance allocated for house building to Thurles Urban District Council, Tullamore Urban District Council and Nenagh Urban District Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 34 of 4 May 1989 which gives details of the capital allocations to each housing authority for their housing construction programme.

170.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will agree to the sale of local authority houses to tenants whose applications were received after 31 December 1988 and where there is a good explanation for the late submission of the application.

Details of the 1988 special tenant purchase scheme were widely publicised when it was introduced and tenants were given ample time to apply before the closing date for the receipt of applications by local authorities, that is 31 December 1988. It is not proposed to extend that date.
