Investigations of alleged overprescribing of controlled drugs involving my Department, the Department of Justice and the Garda Síochána are almost complete in the case of three general practitioners.
I am now, under the powers available to me under the Misuse of Drugs Acts, 1977-1984, in the process of establishing committees of inquiry in these cases.
The Deputy will appreciate that I will have to await the outcome of these investigations before deciding what action, if any, is to be taken in relation to the doctors concerned.
