Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dental Treatment.

203.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make funds available to the Southern Health Board to enable them provide dental treatment for all primary school children.

The Southern Health Board have recently reorganised its dental services for national school children in line with the recommendations of the working group chaired by Deputy Terry Leyden, former Minister of State at my Department. As a result each year all children in second and in sixth standards will be examined for dental defects and will be treated if necessary. For children who are pupils of primary schools which are not national schools it is a matter for the school governors to make application to the health board which has discretion with regard to the provision of child health services including dental services for these children.
