Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - Child Victims of Sexual Abuse.

208.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are no follow-up treatment facilities for child victims of sexual abuse after assessment and validation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I do not accept the Deputy's suggestion that there are "no follow-up treatment facilities" available for victims of child sexual abuse. Where child sexual abuse is confirmed, counselling and therapy are available through a variety of services and agencies. For example, ongoing support and supervision is provided by the community care staffs of the health boards. Where more specialised intervention is necessary, this is available through the child guidance clinics and the child psychiatric services.
