The Government in April 1988, appointed an interdepartmental committee to examine aspects of third level education and, inter alia, to identify policies to reduce third level costs by rationalisation, or otherwise. The committee are expected to report early in the new year. I would not wish to pre-empt the recommendations of the committee in the matter of any recommendations it might make concerning medical schools.
